Player Into: C/O 2012 Antonio “Flip” Hopkins

5/8/2009

The Vashon Wolverines have had a long line of top guards throughout their rich programs history. Names like Altonio “Shotgun” Irons, Ray “Mouse” Collins, Steve Hall, Sean Tunstall, Gerald “Dink” Jones, Joel Shelton,

James Washington, Dwayne Polk, are just some of the greats.

Another one is on a complete tear thus far in his first year of AAU

basketball. 5’10 sophomore to be guard Antonio Hopkins has

made quite an impression so far while competing with the

St. Louis Eagles.

Hopkins an electric, quick, and explosive lead guard that has a

high skill set and a high competitive streak was a starter this

past season for the Vashon Wolverines and did a good job in

his first year of varsity action.

Also a very strong leader with very solid defensive skills, Hopkins

first caught our eye during our Rameybasketball.com 8th grade

MO vs IL all star game last year in the West Pine Gym on the

campus of SLU. In that game Hopkins who is better known as

Flip put on a display of skill and agility in leading his MO team to an easy victory and himself to the MVP award. Another big performance was on the horizon before Flip would even begin his high school seasons practice as he was one of the top freshman at our Annual Battle 4 the Rankings Showcase in February and in the Inaugural Rameybasketball.com Fall Basketball League where Flip was voted to the All Star game at the conclusion of the 8 game league.

Thus far after again a good high school season that saw Flip average 9 points and 4 assists per game on varsity, Flip has continued his progressing nicely into one of the areas top prospects in the class of 2012. Hopkins was recently named 15U Division MVP of the prestigious NY2LA Swish & Dish Tourney in leading the St. Louis Eagles to the tourney title. Hopkins then had a very solid tourney in Conway, Arkansas at the Old School Classic and last weekend Hopkins was named to the all tourney team in leading his team to a final four finish at the Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas.

Hopkins is a player that college coaches should start to keep tabs on as he is primed to be one of the top area recruits in the class of 2012. Continue to follow Rameybasketball.com as we will bring you all the latest happenings on Antonio “Flip” Hopkins.
