Class of 2013 Spotlight: Anthony Virdure

When talking about an incoming high school freshman it is hard to evaluate who might be the best or a standout or how that player might end up in four years. When it comes to 5’10 Lutheran North High School freshman standout guard Anthony Virdure he has set the bar pretty high. Virdure has made quite the name for himself locally for years while competing with The Family basketball team while in middle school. We first laid eyes on Virdure at the 2008 Battle 4 the Rankings Showcase at Forest Park Community College as the then 8th grader was recognized as one of the top players in the class of 2012 while competing a year up.

It was a stellar 14u AAU National Tournament in Florida this past July that turned that local recognition into national recognition. The 14u AAU national tourney featured arguably the top 14u players in the nation and Virdure sketched his name up their with the best of them as Clark Francis of Hoopscooponline ranked the players on their performances and upside at the prestigious national tournament and Virdure came away ranked as the # 37 best prospect.

Virdure who has a combination of a: great skill set, great ball handling, great passing ability, great basketball IQ, and a lethal jump shot torched opponents at the national tourney with an average of over 22 points a game with a high of 29 points.

Virdure is a hard worker that is humble and understands his role to the maximum. He is capable of running an offense with the best of players and also can score with the best at his position and knows when to do both. Virdure is a coaches dream and Lutheran North head coach Brent Reuter’s dream have come true and Virdure is expected to start on varsity from day one and we go on the record as to say that he just might be the top class of 2013 prospect in the area.

We here at rameybasketball.com want to congratulate Anthony Virdure on his great honor of being the only area prospect ranked at this event and considered a national top 50 player in his graduating class nationally by a major scouting service and we wish him the best throughout his high school career and we will continue to bring you all the latest on Anthony Virdure.
